Hi! I'm Hailey. I'm a Wife, Mom of soon to be three kiddos and I run Wild Oak Trail (an Off Grid Prepper Store) with my Husband Saxon.
We live in a city in Canada, just above North Dakota in a 4 Plex that we own (our apartment is 800 sq ft, so you could definitely call us Minimalist Preppers). We've always loved Prepping, and think everyone should be ready for emergencies, whether they live in a city or out in the country.
There have been many occasions where we felt the government was unstable, and of course living near North Dakota, we get extreme winters (-40C/104F) and have had the occasional multi day power outage during the winter.
Having kids at home, the need for prepping gets even more real. I wouldn't call myself an anxious Mom overall, but I absolutely would say I have had moments of anxiety when I think of issues that could happen (especially when I turn on the news for a few minutes). Those moments of worry have gotten so much less now that we have some prepping essentials in our home.
Most families don't need more than one generator if it's just for backups, but since we run an off grid Prepper store, we of course like to test out a lot of the products that we sell. We definitely plan to stock up more food storage in the future, but with limited storage space and a third baby on the way, it'll have to wait for now. But check back or comment below to chat and see what we've added since I wrote this!
Peace of mind. Like I said, I'm not overly anxious, but we certainly like to stay informed on the political climate and whats happening in the world and that sometimes makes it feel a little unsteady! So having the basics ready to either hunker down at home or be ready to get out of town in a hurry makes me feel so prepared and peaceful!
Did you know most freeze dried foods last up to 25 years?! Thats the major advantage of Freeze Dried Emergency Food vs canned food that expires in a year or so. I would hate to stock up and spend a ton of money on food only to find it expired when you actually need it. This food just needs water to rehydrate it, and it actually tastes really good once it's prepared, so it's a win win for emergency prep.
Having a solar generator and a few solar panels on hand can make all the difference in the world for peace of mind incase of a big storm, or of course power on the go. Solar Generators are the best option for emergencies because they can be used indoors without any dangerous fumes and are completely quiet if you are trying to keep your power hush hush, or just trying to avoid waking up your kids.
If you have questions about what you should have for your prepping basics, feel free to chat in, call us at 1-844-945-3625 or comment on this blog and we'd be happy to run through your different options!
