In 1993, Catoma initially introduced its products in Montgomery, Alabama as a military surplus. Back then, their very first venture was to develop a shelter for the United States Forest Service, particularly the Wilderness Firefighters. Since the company was originally situated on the banks of Catoma Creek, in Montgomery, Alabama, the name was then borrowed, and Catoma was born. Catoma tents became favorites of the USDA forest service as their military cot.
