The All-New EcoFlow Delta 2 Review

In August of 2022, the CEO of EcoFlow made an important announcement about a new product. The EcoFlow Delta 2 is now one of the latest products to hit the market of solar generators. It's one of the best and most powerful for its price range, and it comes with some amazing features. Here’s what you need to know about the all-new EcoFlow Delta 2.

EcoFlow Delta 2 Specs and Features

The latest of the EcoFlow Delta power station series is quite small relative to any comparable solar generator on the market. For volume, it comes in a convenient15.7 x 8.3 x 11 in / 400 x 211 x 281 mm. This is perfect for an RV closet, small vehicle, and overall easy storage. Also, the Delta 2 is incredibly light for its power, weighing only 27 pounds. Here’s what you need to know about performance!

Output

For such a small portable power station, you can charge a wide range of devices. In total, the Delta 2 offers:

  • 6 AC outlets
  • 2 USB ports
  • 2 USB-C ports
  • 2 USB-A fast-charging ports
  • 2 DC5521 ports
  • 1 car-charging port

The Delta 2’s pure sine wave inverter allows for up to 2200W of surge output with the X-Boost technology and 1800W of continuous AC output. This makes the Delta 2 one of the only portable power stations in its price range that can power anything from a coffee maker to some larger home appliances.

While camping, this means that you could easily power a hair dryer without having to unplug your normal electronics from the power station. 2200W is more than enough for an electric cooking range, let alone laptops, lights, CPAP machines, or WiFi routers.

Battery Power

The lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery is extremely powerful and lightweight while offering up to 1,024Wh battery capacity. This is more than enough to power basic electronics, a television, and LED lights for a couple of nights. If the system receives input from portable solar panels, then you can even

Also, the battery is long-lasting. The LFP battery chemistry allows for over 3000 lifecycles, meaning you can get 10 years of regular use before reaching 80% of its original capacity. Compare that to some lead-acid portable solar generators with a similar price range, which can drop to 60% in as little as 500 lifecycles.

Charging Options

It seems that EcoFlow doesn’t release a new product unless it’s going to change the game in some way. This time, it’s with charging.

The Delta 2 can reach a full charge up to 7x faster than its competitors with the addition of the X-Stream fast AC charging technology. This effectively allows you to use EV fast charging on your system. With this X-stream tech, you can charge the system from 0% to 80% in 50 minutes with simple wall outlets or other AC input, which is unprecedented for the industry. Of course, you can also charge it with up to 1100W of DC power or in the car.

Moreover, the Delta 2 can handle up to 500W of solar input at a time (up to 2 panels), which should charge the system in as little as 3 hours. If you need a portable power station on the job site, this will effectively give you unlimited free power during the daytime!

Benefits of the EcoFlow Delta 2

While these specs and features demonstrate how unique this portable power station is, there are still plenty of other benefits to mention. Here are some important ones!

The EcoFlow App

One of the best features of the Delta 2 is the compatibility with the EcoFlow App. The app allows you to see insights into your charging, energy expenditure, and battery health without access to the LED display screen.

Consequently, that means that if you use the Delta 2 for backing up home appliances, you can easily monitor it from elsewhere. The system can connect through WiFi or Bluetooth, so you don’t even have to be near it to read insights. Again, you won’t get that with other solar generators in this price range.

The Price

Honestly, the best feature about the Delta 2 is the price, as it is easily one of the most powerful systems for its price range. At this price range, no other power station will last this long, offer the same output, or charge as quickly.

Compatibility

The Delta 2 is compatible with other EcoFlow products like the Smart Home Panel, allowing you to connect to your home circuits for an emergency power supply or energy savings during peak hours. This allows for seamless home backup during an outage. This is perfect if you have an essential appliance at home like medical equipment or a freezer full of meat.

It can also compound with extra batteries, effectively doubling your battery capacity for a longer power outage or camping trip. On top of an extra Delta 2 battery, you can even add a Delta Max Extra Battery to your system. This would create a 3040Wh capacity.

Efficiency

The EcoFlow Delta 2 can actively detect the voltage and current to reach the maximum power point with more than 98% efficiency. It finds the optimal efficiency using the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) smart algorithm, making it far more efficient than its competitors.

Warranty

Every Delta 2 comes with a warranty card that’s good for 5 years, long after plenty of competing brands break down. If you want peace of mind with your purchase, this is a great benefit!

Free Energy

Finally, sunlight is free, and so is the energy you receive from it. With rising energy costs and a need for green energy, buying a Delta 2 power station is akin to investing a home fuel cells and solar panels, but on a more affordable scale.

However, one of the disadvantages of using solar panels and fuel cells is their slow charging. It also has impressive charge times of 3-6 hours, even with little solar input, allowing you to save money on energy for as long as possible!

Disadvantages of the Delta 2

No system is ever perfect, and the Delta 2 is no exception. For example, 27 pounds may not seem like much, but if you have to carry it by hand, it can be a little challenging. This is especially true if you use it on the job site and have to carry it around daily. Still, this is very reasonable compared to a gas generator with fuel cans!

Also, it’s a mid-tier system for price and performance. Essentially, this means that it isn’t ideal for backpackers or those looking to live off-grid. It isn’t powerful enough or light enough for either, as it is in the middle. However, that may be exactly what you're looking for, as this is arguably the best price-power ratio on the market.

EcoFlow Delta 2 vs EcoFlow Delta

The EcoFlow Delta 1300 was the predecessor of the EcoFlow Delta 2. The EcoFlow Delta was the first large portable solar generator from EcoFlow, launching in October of 2017. The model revolutionized the industry and kickstarted EcoFlow’s wildly successful Delta series.

The Delta 2 is taking the place of the original Delta at the same price range with similar features. However, the Delta 2 is using far more advanced technology including the X-Stream tech, fast charging options, and durable battery chemistry.

Not convinced? To start, the Delta 2 is nearly 4 pounds lighter than the original model. The Delta weighed 30.9 pounds (14 kg) compared to the new model at 27 pounds (12 kg).

For input and output, the charging time and total output is far superior on the newer model. The original Delta only allowed for 1260W of continuous output and it would take at least 4 hours to charge. You’ll also have more options with the newer model, allowing for compounding batteries, fast-charging USB ports, and more.

Also, the new LFP battery lasts for up to 4x longer than the original model, which was only geared for 800+ lifecycles. With similar capacity and price points, it’s easy to see that the Delta 2 is far superior, even though the Delta was so revolutionary only 3 years ago.

Honest Review of the EcoFlow Delta 2

Overall, the Delta 2 is an incredibly powerful system for its weight and price. It charges faster than any comparable power station on the market, whether you’re using AC charging or solar panels. On top of that, it has all of the same features and perks as other EcoFlow products, like its helpful app, WiFi capability, and more.

All in all, it certainly isn’t a bad deal. If you want a strong power station but don’t have thousands of dollars to spend, then this is the best system for you!
