Maintaining traditional heating systems isn’t cheap, but it can keep them running for a long time. Believe it or not, the cost of furnace cleaning runs between $131 and $484, and you have to do it every year!

This is one of the reasons why so many people are looking for alternative heating options like Martin wall heaters. With these systems, you won’t need to call in a specialist to do this work, as it’s easy enough to do on your own. Let’s talk about how to maintain your Martin heaters for the best results.

How to Maintain Your Martin Propane Heater

First, to get the most out of your Martin wall heater, make sure that everything is connected correctly and sitting on the wall properly.

At least once a year, you’ll need to do some routine maintenance on your heater. Do this before every heating season at least, but we’d strongly recommend following these steps at least once more in the middle of winter. It can greatly extend the life of your heater. Here’s what you need to do.

1. Disconnect Your System

First, you need to shut off the propane supply at its source. Head to your propane tank and close off the valve before disconnecting it from your heater. From there, take off the two screws on the front of your heater and remove the control knob to remove the cover.

2. Take a Look

Look at the interior of the pipes and vents to see if there are any obstructions, buildups, or residues. If there is excessive buildup, this could be a sign that your system wasn’t installed properly. If you do notice anything, clean it up immediately and keep an eye on it periodically throughout the heating season.

Also, check the openings in the rear of the unit for any foreign materials and remove anything you see.

3. Check the Burner

Visually check the pilot and the main burner for signs of excessive dirt or debris through the heat exchanger front glass. If you notice anything, remove the pilot and the burner to clean the inside with either a vacuum or a can of compressed air.

4. Reinstall

After taking everything apart, reconnect any vents, screws, and other parts that were taken apart during this process. If you’re confused at all, check out our installation guide so you can double-check your work.

5. Pay Attention

If your heater isn’t working as it’s supposed to during the heating season, then open it up and follow the steps above. If you notice any concerning noises, smells, or lack of heat output, disconnect the system right away and look inside for any obstructions. If you can’t identify the problem and it persists, contact a professional!
