Extending the Life of Your EcoFlow Delta Pro Battery

Before we get started, how long does the EcoFlow Delta Pro battery last?

The Delta Pro uses lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries that work using an anode and cathode to trap lithium ions to use as energy. These particular batteries are geared for up to 3,600Wh of capacity and up to 6,500 lifecycles. When we say “lifecycles”, we mean how many times you can deplete the battery and fully recharge it. After 6,500 lifecycles, you’ll notice a 20% decline from its original capacity. 

That means that if you use the system every day until it’s empty, like for off-grid living, you’d be able to use it that heavily for 10 years before noticing a substantial decline in capacity. At least, on average.

Fortunately, there are ways to improve your Delta Pro’s lifespan. Let’s talk about some of them!

1. Keep It Cool

There’s no doubt that LFP batteries are superior to lead-acid and other battery technologies, but no battery is safe from overheating. For a system that lasts for so long on its own, you don’t need to go overboard, but there are some general best practices to follow. 

For example, if you’re using your Delta Pro on a job site, try to keep it in the shade whenever possible. If you’re going to store it for long periods, try to keep it in a climate-controlled room, preferably between 15°C and 35°C (59°F to 95°F). This alone will go a long way!

2. Store Your System Properly

Beyond temperature control, you can damage a battery by storing it completely discharged. While it may sound counter-intuitive, try to keep your system fully charged while in storage, or at least at 50%, especially for longer periods, and ensure that there is no power draw connected to it (check the display screen or app for more insights).

Luckily, the EcoFlow Delta Pro battery can hold a full charge for over a year, so you won’t have to recharge it as often as you would with a lead-acid battery. If you only use the system on occasional trips, proper storage could mean keeping your system in good shape for life!

3. Charge Your Delta Pro Correctly

Overcharging is the most common reason for lifespan degradation on any battery system, whether it’s your iPhone or your portable power station.

To make things simple, the EcoFlow Delta Pro can handle up to 3,400W from a rapid EV charger, making it very durable for fast charging. Still, you don’t want to make this a regular habit. If 3,400W is its capacity, we strongly recommend following the 20% rule and using a maximum of 680W at a time.

If you rely heavily on your system and charge it with 1600W from solar panels for your off-grid life, that’s perfectly fine. The system will still last for years and years, so don’t beat yourself up. However, if you use it frequently on the job or on the road, try to keep the charging limited.
