Is the EcoFlow Delta 2 Really Worth It?

by Hunter Kissam October 03, 2022 3 min read

The EcoFlow Delta 2 is the newest addition to the EcoFlow Delta series, and it’s meant to replace the original Delta. It’s designed as a mid-capacity, mid-weight, and portable power station for outdoor enthusiasts and those who need portable power on the go.

So, is it really worth it, or is it the same as the original Delta? Let’s find out.

Determine Your Portable Power Needs

Before we compare this to similar power stations, let’s see how the Delta 2 holds up compared to gas generators where you’d usually find them.

On the Job

Saws, drills, and other power tools come with high energy demands on average. Not all of them can use batteries for their power draw. Fortunately, the EcoFlow Delta 2 offers up to 1800W of output and a 1024 Wh capacity. You can even extend the battery life for as long as you want for free with up to 500W of solar input!

Still, without solar panels, here’s how long your EcoFlow Delta 2 can last with just one charge.

Machine Average Wattage Continuous Run Time
Corded drill 450 to 1000 1 to 2 hours
Circular saw 1400 to 1800 35 to 45 minutes
Table saw/Miter saw 1500 to 1800 30 to 40 minutes
Shop vacuum 1200 to 1300 45 to 50 minutes
Jigsaw 300 to 700 1.5 to 3+ hours

RV Camping

For RV camping, the output should be more than enough to power a few LED lights, small electronics, a medium-sized television, and a WiFi hotspot. If you need to cook with it or use a hair dryer, you should have no problem running it temporarily. However, these appliances will drain the battery within an hour in most cases.

For the average camper, this makes for a great replacement for gas generators. Solar energy is free, and 500W will charge the system in around 2 hours, allowing for nearly unlimited power during the day.

However, add up your wattage and see how much you’d need to make it through the night.

Appliance Average Wattage Time
Electric cooking range 1000W ~1 hour
32” LED television 50W ~20 hours
4 LED lightbulbs 40W (total) 25 hours
Video game console 40 to 140W 8 to 25 hours
Coffee maker 200 to 400W (1000W peak) 2 to 5 hours
Speakers 10 to 100W 10 to 100 hours
House fan 20 to 100W 10 to 50 hours
Toaster oven 800 to 1200W ~1-hour
Macbook Pro 52.8Wh capacity ~20 times

EcoFlow Delta 2 vs EcoFlow Delta

So, is it worth it to go with the new technology or is it the same as the original Delta? Let’s compare.

Capacity and Output

The original Delta had the same 1800W output capacity, and a slightly higher charging capacity of 1260Wh, compared to the Delta 2’s 1024.

Still, the new Delta 2 has kept true to the original design, with 13 total outlets and a similar shape. All outlets have the same capacity, except that the Delta 2 can charge up to 100W through 2 USB-C ports instead of the original 60W.

Also, the Delta 2 allows for an expandable design, compatible with other EcoFlow batteries, further increasing its potential over the original Delta.

Charge Time

Even with solar panels, you can fully charge the system in around 2 hours from a complete discharge. The system can handle up to 500W of charging, so you won’t have to wait long.

Portability

The EcoFlow Delta 2 is around 4 pounds lighter than the original Delta, making it a more portable system overall. However, they are about the same size altogether.

Lifespan

There’s no comparison here. The original Delta was set to last for 800 lifecycles, meaning you could fully discharge and recharge the battery daily for 2 to 3 years before noticing a substantial decline in capacity.

Conversely, the new Delta 2 can last for over 3,000 lifecycles with the advanced lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery. This means you can use it daily for nearly 10 years before reaching 80% capacity.

Is the EcoFlow Delta 2 Worth It?

Considering that the two models are about the same price, the new EcoFlow Delta 2 is absolutely worth it. It is the superior model, even with a slightly lower capacity. You will get far more life out of it, and you can easily keep the system charged with up to 500W charging capacity and 1800W output.
