How long does it take to filter water with the Big Berkey?
The Big Berkey System can filter approximately 7.0 Gallons of water per hour when fully configured with four Black Berkey purification elements. Filtration time can vary depending on the quality of the source water.
What contaminants does the Big Berkey remove?
The Big Berkey System effectively removes over 200 contaminants including viruses, bacteria, parasites, heavy metals, pesticides, chlorine, fluoride (with the addition of PF-2 filters), and more. It provides pure and great-tasting water without relying on electricity or water pressure.
How do I clean the Big Berkey System?
To clean the Big Berkey System, disassemble the unit and scrub the Black Berkey elements with a Scotch-Brite pad under running water. Wash the chambers with mild dish soap and rinse thoroughly. Cleaning is recommended every six months or as needed, depending on water quality and usage.
How often do I need to replace my Berkey filters?
The Black Berkey purification elements can filter up to 3,000 gallons (11,356 liters) of water per element, meaning the two elements in the Big Berkey can filter up to 6,000 gallons (22,712 liters) before needing replacement. With average use, this could mean several years before replacement is necessary.

Berkey Water Filter Extended Lifetime Warranty
Wild Oak Trail offers an exclusive Lifetime warranty for your Big Berkey Water Filter.
This covers your stainless steel chamber and lid, washers, nuts and spigot. This provides coverage over and above the general manufacturers warranty. For the first 6 months to 2 years depending on which product you purchase, the warranty will be handled via NMCL (makers of the Berkey). Once your initial warranty with Berkey ends, your Berkey container and parts excluding filters will be handled via Wild Oak Trail. This warranty is provided free of charge with your system purchase through www.WildOakTrail.com. Proof of purchase through Wild Oak Trail is required.
This guarantee will be void in circumstances of misuse. It doesn’t cover items that have been damaged due to user abuse, mistreatment, salt water or air, lack of maintenance, lack of routine cleanings, or accidents (dropping etc.).
The customer will be responsible for processing charges and shipping.
The Berkey Earth Ceramic Filters and Black Berkey purification elements have a two year pro-rated manufacturer’s warranty which is calculated in six month intervals. The filters and purification elements are not covered under lifetime warranty. For example, if you have used the filters for 8 months, 75% of the guarantee still applies so you can get a full replacement set for 25% off of the normal cost.
