EcoFlow makes excellent portable power stations, but their expansion battery ecosystem has one rule that trips up a lot of buyers: every expansion battery works with exactly one specific power station model. The DELTA Pro Smart Extra Battery does not work with the DELTA Pro 3. The DELTA Pro Ultra Battery does not work with the original DELTA Pro. There is no workaround and no adapter. The wrong expansion battery is a return, not a fix.

Why EcoFlow Expansion Batteries Are Not Interchangeable

Each EcoFlow power station operates at a different system voltage and uses a different battery management protocol. The expansion battery connects through a port that is physically keyed to its parent unit, and the firmware on the expansion battery communicates directly with the specific power station it was designed for. A DELTA Pro Smart Extra Battery does not present the right connector shape, voltage, or communication protocol to connect to a DELTA Pro 3, even though both are EcoFlow products in the same DELTA Pro family.

This is not a cost-cutting measure or an arbitrary restriction. It reflects genuine engineering differences between each power station generation. When in doubt, the only reliable compatibility check is matching the exact model name on the product page to your exact power station model.

EcoFlow RIVER Plus Extra Battery: A Legacy Product

The RIVER Plus Extra Battery adds additional storage to the EcoFlow RIVER Plus. Confirm the exact Wh capacity on the product page before ordering, as the RIVER Plus product line has conflicting capacity figures across EcoFlow's own documentation. One extra battery is the maximum for a single RIVER Plus unit.

The critical note before purchasing: the EcoFlow RIVER Plus has been replaced by the RIVER 2 series in EcoFlow's current lineup. The RIVER Plus Extra Battery is not compatible with the RIVER 2, RIVER 2 Max, RIVER 2 Pro, RIVER 3, or any other current EcoFlow RIVER model. If you own a RIVER Plus and need to expand its capacity, this is your only option. If you own any RIVER 2 or newer model, this battery will not work with your unit. Check the exact model printed on your power station before ordering.

Important: The WAVE 2 Add-on Battery Is Not a Power Station Expansion

The EcoFlow WAVE 2 Add-on Battery is a 1,159Wh battery designed to extend the runtime of the EcoFlow WAVE 2 and WAVE 3 portable air conditioners. It is not a power station expansion battery and has no connection, compatibility, or application with any EcoFlow DELTA series power station or any other portable power station.

It appears in our battery collection because it is technically a battery product, and it may appear in broader "EcoFlow expansion battery" search results. If you are looking to add capacity to an EcoFlow power station, skip this product and refer to the DELTA Pro, DELTA Pro Ultra, or DELTA Pro 3 sections below based on which power station you own.

EcoFlow DELTA Pro Smart Extra Battery

The DELTA Pro Smart Extra Battery is designed specifically for the EcoFlow DELTA Pro, the original 3,600Wh power station. Each extra battery adds 3,600Wh of capacity through a dedicated expansion port on the side of the DELTA Pro unit. You can connect up to two extra batteries to a single DELTA Pro, bringing total system capacity to 10,800Wh (10.8kWh). The DELTA Pro and its extra batteries are managed as a single system through the EcoFlow app.

This is the most common EcoFlow expansion battery for home backup applications. A single DELTA Pro with two extra batteries provides 10.8kWh, which covers essential home loads for roughly 2 to 4 days depending on consumption. The expansion batteries charge and discharge together with the base unit and require no separate wiring or charge controllers.

What it is NOT compatible with: The DELTA Pro Smart Extra Battery does not connect to the DELTA Pro Ultra, the DELTA Pro 3, the DELTA 2, the DELTA 2 Max, or any other EcoFlow model. The family name "DELTA Pro" appears across multiple generations of EcoFlow products, but the expansion batteries for each are different.

EcoFlow DELTA Pro Ultra Battery

The DELTA Pro Ultra Battery is for the EcoFlow DELTA Pro Ultra system, a whole-home energy storage platform designed for permanent or semi-permanent installation rather than portable use. Each battery unit adds 6,144Wh of capacity. The DELTA Pro Ultra system supports stacking multiple battery units and up to three inverters, scaling to 90kWh of total storage and 7.2kW to 21.6kW of AC output.

This product is aimed at buyers building a serious whole-home backup system rather than those seeking portable or semi-portable power expansion. Installation and floor load planning are typically required before ordering at this scale. It is not compatible with the original DELTA Pro or the DELTA Pro 3.

EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3 Smart Extra Battery

The DELTA Pro 3 Smart Extra Battery is designed for the EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3 and adds 4,096Wh per unit. Up to two extra batteries can be added per DELTA Pro 3, bringing total system capacity to approximately 12kWh. The DELTA Pro 3 supports both 120V and 240V output, which makes it more suitable for large home appliances than the original DELTA Pro, and the extra battery maintains that full output range when connected.

Despite the similar name, this battery is not compatible with the original DELTA Pro or the DELTA Pro Ultra. The DELTA Pro 3 is a newer generation with different voltage and communication architecture. The 4,096Wh per unit capacity is also meaningfully different from the 3,600Wh of the DELTA Pro Smart Extra Battery, so they are not interchangeable even in terms of the energy added.

• Own a RIVER Plus (original, legacy model): EcoFlow RIVER Plus Extra Battery. One per unit only.
