Off Grid Septic System

The SepticJohn by ECOJOHN is a revolutionary off grid septic system that provides a clean, efficient, and low-maintenance solution for handling human waste and grey water. Unlike a traditional septic system, which relies on leach lines and a drain field to process waste, the SepticJohn system incinerates waste using a highly efficient burner, leaving behind only sterile ash. This makes it ideal for off grid homes, cabins, and remote locations where installing septic tanks or connecting to a grid septic system is impractical or impossible.

The SepticJohn system is engineered with high-quality materials to withstand high usage and severe environments. Its efficient low flush toilets and submersible transfer pump work together to reduce water usage while ensuring that the system processes waste effectively. The entire system has been rigorously tested by multiple global testing agencies to ensure safety, quality, and compliance with local regulations.

Incinerating Septic Alternative

The SepticJohn is more than just an off grid septic system — it’s an incinerating septic alternative that burns waste at high temperatures, reducing it to sterile ash. This eliminates the need for a leach field or drain field, making it a game-changer for off grid wastewater management.

SepticJohn – Complete Household Wastewater Incineration System

SepticJohn incinerators provide an innovative solution for wastewater treatment systems. Common Issues with Failing Septic Tanks

  • Groundwater Contamination: Leaks and overflows can pollute nearby water sources.
  • Odor and Backups: Failing tanks often cause unpleasant odors and sewage backups.
  • Drain Field Saturation: Poor drainage can cause wastewater to surface, creating health hazards.
  • Costly Repairs: Fixing or replacing a septic tank can be expensive and disruptive.
  • Environmental Impact: Untreated wastewater can harm local ecosystems.

SepticJohn eliminates these issues by completely incinerating wastewater into sterile ash.

FAQs – SepticJohn Off Grid Septic System

How does the SepticJohn system differ from a traditional septic system?

Unlike traditional septic systems that use leach fields and aerobic systems, the SepticJohn incinerates waste, leaving only sterile ash.

Is the SepticJohn system suitable for off grid homes?

Yes, it’s ideal for off grid homes and remote locations without access to grid septic systems.

How often do I need to remove the ash?

The sterile ash should be removed periodically depending on usage levels.

Can I use the SepticJohn with existing plumbing and fixtures?

Yes, it’s compatible with standard low flush toilets, washing machines, and shower heads.

Is the SepticJohn system environmentally friendly?

Yes, the system operates with low emissions and efficient burners to reduce environmental impact.

What is the SepticJohn and how does it work?

SepticJohn (also known as ECOJOHN WC series) is a whole-house incinerating septic system. All wastewater—from toilets, showers, sinks, etc.—flows into a holding tank. When the tank fills, a pump feeds batches into a heated combustion chamber, where high temperatures incinerate the waste down to sterile ash. It's automated via PLC controls and sensors, runs with low emissions, and removes waste volume entirely.

What models are available and what’s their capacity?

There are four models to fit different household sizes:

  • WC5: 37 gal/day (~2 people)
  • WC32: 75 gal/day (~4 people)
  • WC48: 150 gal/day (~8 people)
  • WC64: 300 gal/day (~16 people)

Each runs on propane, natural gas, diesel (also kerosene, JP8), and is powered by 12 V DC, 120 VAC, or 240 VAC.

How is it installed?

Connect your existing toilets and gray water fixtures to a standard holding tank sized per local codes (e.g., Indiana requires ~150 gal/bedroom). A submersible pump sends waste into the SepticJohn unit, which must be placed in a separate structure or enclosure. You’ll also need fuel hookups, electrical power, and a vent/exhaust stack. Installation must follow manufacturer specs and local codes.

What makes it better than traditional septic?
  • No leach field—ideal for poor soil or high water tables (requires only a holding tank)
  • Compact footprint—easy to site on small or difficult lots
  • Low maintenance—just remove sterile ash occasionally, no sludge pumping
  • Automated & remotely monitored via PLC + sensors
  • Eco-friendly—burns waste cleanly with certified low emissions
What are the fuel & electricity needs?

Fuel use by model:

  • WC5: ~0.29 gal/hr propane or 0.27 gal/hr diesel
  • WC32: ~0.48 gal/hr propane or 0.42 gal/hr diesel
  • WC48: ~0.79 gal/hr propane or 0.72 gal/hr diesel
  • WC64: ~1.32 gal/hr propane or 1.12 gal/hr diesel

Power draw is minimal—4 A @ 120 VAC, 2 A @ 240 VAC, or ~20 A @ 12 V DC.

How much does it cost?

Base prices (for WC5 model) start around $10,995, with larger models ranging up to ~$26,995 for WC64 depending on power/fuel options.

Running costs depend on fuel usage; while heavier use consumes more gas, most off‑grid setups stay in a reasonable range (no septic pumping or field repairs). Exact costs will depend on local fuel prices and usage patterns.

Is it safe and approved?

Yes. The WC series is NSF‑P157 certified, UL/CSA approved, durable, and uses PLC control with safety monitoring. It’s been tested by U.S. military and designed for rugged environments.

For instance, Texas TCEQ and Indiana Health have approved use in one/two-family homes with correct tank sizing and permitting. Note: air permits and ash disposal must follow local regs.
