SunStar Solar Refrigerators are high-efficiency, off-grid appliances made in the USA, designed specifically to run on solar power. They come in both upright and chest styles and are ideal for cabins, homesteads, tiny homes, RVs, and remote locations. DC models (12V or 24V) run directly off your battery bank and solar charge controller—perfect for off-grid systems. They don’t need an inverter and are more energy efficient.

AC models (115V) plug into standard home outlets. These are great if you're using a generator or on-grid backup. They require an inverter if used off-grid, and typically draw a bit more power.

Tip: If you're running a full solar setup with batteries, the DC model is usually the better long-term option.

• 10 cu. ft. DC unit: ~250–300W panel + 100Ah battery
• 16 cu. ft. DC unit: ~350–400W panel + 150Ah battery

You’ll also want to ensure 4–6 hours of full sunlight daily and proper tilt on your solar panels.

Yes, for all DC models, a battery bank and charge controller are required. The solar panel charges your battery through the controller, and the fridge draws from the battery. AC models require an inverter and battery if you are off-grid.

The typical connection flow is:
Solar panel → Charge controller → Battery bank → Fridge

DC units connect directly to the battery. AC units require an inverter to convert DC battery power into 115V AC.

Always transport the unit upright. If it must be laid down, stand it upright and let it sit unplugged for 12+ hours before turning on. Leave 1–2" of space around the sides and back for airflow. Place on a level surface indoors out of direct sun. Plug into a fused DC circuit or standard 115V outlet (depending on model).

Use the built-in digital thermostat on the fridge. Fridge temps should be set between 35–38°F and freezer around 0°F. SunStar units allow independent control of fridge and freezer compartments for better performance.

• 2 blinks: Fan overload or blockage
• 3 blinks: Compressor start error
• 5 blinks: Controller or sensor overheat

If you see a fault light, turn off the unit, check your battery voltage, wiring, and airflow around the unit. Most issues resolve with restored voltage or better ventilation.

It usually takes 8–12 hours to reach full temperature after first being plugged in, depending on ambient temperature and load. For best results, cool it down before loading food and avoid frequent door openings.

SunStar fridges use thick 4" to 4.5" polyurethane foam insulation for maximum energy efficiency. They’re equipped with Secop (formerly Danfoss) DC compressors—known for reliability, quiet operation, and very low power draw. Some models use two compressors for better cooling control.

SunStar offers a limited manufacturer warranty. This covers defects in materials and workmanship.
