- Comes standard with 2 Black Berkey® Elements. A pair filters roughly 6,000 gallons before replacement, so most households go years between element changes.
- Built for tap water. Black Berkey® Elements are specially formulated to address 200+ typical contaminants found in tap water, including chlorine, lead and PFAS. Independent lab reports are linked in the description.
- Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Elements. Each pair filters up to 5,500 gallons and flows faster than Black Berkey® Elements, up to 4.2 gallons per hour. Use them as a matching set, not mixed with Black Berkey® Elements.
- Built for treated tap water. Independently tested to address 200+ typical non-biological contaminants found in municipal water, including PFAS, VOCs and heavy metals. Certified to NSF/ANSI 42 (taste and odor) and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 (lead-free materials).
- Sized for 2 – 6 people. 3.25 gallons of filtered water on hand, refilled from the tap in a minute.

Simple Assembly Guide
- Unpack & Prime: Take out all parts; use the included priming instructions to prime the elements (Phoenix elements come with a PrimeEasy™ Universal Primer).
- Preparation: Clean your hands before starting to avoid component contamination.
- Lid Assembly: Pass the screw up through the lid and attach the knob firmly by hand.
- Filter Installation: Fit the large sealing washer on the element stem. Slide it through the upper chamber base and lock it with a wing nut until snug.
- Spigot Setup: Place a washer on the spigot stem and insert through the lower tank. Secure with the interior washer and nut by hand.
- Final Step: Stack the upper tank on the lower unit and set the lid. The system is ready for its first fill.
Note: If installing PF-2 fluoride filters, they must be primed separately and attached directly to the Black Berkey® or Phoenix element stems inside the lower chamber.
Troubleshooting & Tips
Residual WaterIt is normal for about one inch of water to stay in the top tank, as there isn't enough gravity pressure left to push it through.
Filtration SpeedFlow is fastest when the top tank is full. If speed is extremely slow, re-priming elements can clear air and open pores.
Taste & TextureIf flavors are off after initial flushes, try a food coloring test. PF-2 users should ensure all manufacturing dust is flushed to prevent cloudiness.
Spigot LeaksCheck that washers are on both sides of the tank wall. Dry or hard washers can be revived by soaking in olive oil for an hour.

Use one element type per system. We don't recommend running Phoenix and Black Berkey® Elements together in the same upper chamber. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Royal Berkey System?
The Royal Berkey System is a stainless steel countertop water filter that uses gravity, not plumbing or electricity, to pass tap water through Black Berkey® or Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Elements. It is sized for households of 2 to 6 people, and everything you need to set it up is in the box.
How much water can the Royal Berkey System hold?
The Royal Berkey System has a holding capacity of 3.25 gallons (12.3 liters) making it a good fit for 2 to 6 people. Fill it in the evening and the lower chamber holds enough filtered water for cooking and drinking the next day.
How long does it take to filter water with the Royal Berkey?
The Royal Berkey System can filter approximately 4 gallons per hour with two elements, and up to 7 gallons per hour when fully configured with four Black Berkey® Elements. With Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Elements, a pair filters up to 4.2 gallons per hour. Filtration time can vary depending on the quality of the source water.
What does the Royal Berkey reduce in tap water?
Black Berkey® Elements are specially formulated to address 200+ typical contaminants found in treated tap water, including chlorine, lead and other heavy metals, PFAS, pesticides, pharmaceutical residues, and VOCs. Add the optional PF-2 elements to also reduce fluoride and arsenic. Independent lab reports are linked above. Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Elements are independently tested to remove or reduce 200+ typical non-biological contaminants found in municipal water, including PFAS, VOCs, heavy metals and pharmaceuticals, and are certified to NSF/ANSI 42 (taste and odor) and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 (lead-free materials). Berkey® systems are intended for use with treated municipal tap water.
How do I clean the Royal Berkey System?
To clean the Royal Berkey System, disassemble the unit and scrub Black Berkey® Elements with a Scotch-Brite pad under running water (for Phoenix elements, follow the care instructions in the box). Wash the chambers with mild dish soap and rinse thoroughly. Cleaning is recommended every six months or as needed, depending on water quality and usage.
How often do I need to replace my Berkey filters?
The Black Berkey® Elements can filter up to 3,000 gallons (11,356 liters) of water per element, meaning the two elements in the Royal Berkey can filter up to 6,000 gallons (22,712 liters) before needing replacement. With average use, this could mean several years before replacement is necessary. Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Elements are rated for up to 2,750 gallons per element, or 5,500 gallons per pair.
What is the difference between Black Berkey® and Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Elements?
Both fit this system and address 200+ typical contaminants found in treated tap water. Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Elements cost less, filter faster (up to 4.2 gallons per hour per pair) and are certified to NSF/ANSI 42 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372. Black Berkey® Elements last a little longer, up to 6,000 gallons per pair versus 5,500. See the comparison table above.
Can I use Phoenix and Black Berkey® Elements in the same system?
We don't recommend it. The two elements filter at different speeds and have different replacement schedules, so use a matching set of 2 or 4 of the same element. Either one works with Berkey PF-2® fluoride and arsenic elements in the lower chamber.
Are Berkey Products able to ship to the state of IA or CA?
No. Berkey® products cannot ship to California or Iowa. If you are in either state, call or chat with us and we will point you to a comparable gravity filter we can ship.

We’re a family-run business. My Wife Hailey and I run this business with our small staff of 3 awesome people. When you shop with Wild Oak Trail, you're supporting real people, not a big corporation.
We truly care. We’re here before, during, and after your purchase. Good products and great service—that’s how we earn your trust. We see and celebrate EVERY sale that comes in!
We choose quality. If we wouldn’t use it ourselves, we won’t offer it. Our goal is to make you happy enough to tell your friends.
Thanks for supporting our family and being part of the Wild Oak Trail community!

Berkey Shipping Details
All Berkey Water Filter systems and accessories are processed and shipped directly from our trusted U.S. warehouse partners within 3 to 7 business days. Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive a confirmation email containing your tracking number so you can monitor your delivery status in real time.
Due to the stainless steel construction and component packaging of Berkey systems, some larger models or bundle packages may arrive in multiple shipments (for example, the system body may ship separately from filter elements or add-on accessories). If this happens, tracking information will be provided for each package.
Wild Oak Trail proudly offers FREE standard shipping within the continental United States on qualifying Berkey orders. Please note that shipping timelines may vary slightly during peak seasons, holidays, or due to carrier delays beyond our control.
Shipping Restrictions: Due to current manufacturer policies, Berkey products cannot be shipped to Iowa or California. Orders placed with shipping addresses in these states will be canceled and refunded. If you have questions regarding eligibility, please contact our support team before placing your order.
