The EcoFlow Delta Pro Ultra X is the most powerful backup system EcoFlow has built, and it is the first one we would describe as a true alternative to a permanently installed home battery. The inverter puts out up to 12kW at 120/240V, which is enough to run central air conditioning, a well pump and a kitchen at the same time. Batteries are 6.1kWh modules that stack without tools, from one to thirty, for 6.1kWh to 184.32kWh. Switchover from grid to battery takes under 10 milliseconds. With 10kW of solar it refills from empty in about 1.2 hours.
The price of entry is $3,799 for the inverter alone or $7,999 with two batteries, and for almost every home the two-battery configuration is the right starting point. Below is how it performs, how to size it, and who should buy it.

Most portable power stations top out between 1,800W and 4,000W, which covers plug-in appliances but not the hard-wired 240V loads that define a whole-home outage: central air conditioning, an electric water heater, a well pump, an electric range or a dryer. The Ultra X's 12kW inverter with 120/240V output changes that. A 3-ton central air conditioner draws about 3,500W running; a half-horsepower well pump about 1,000W; a refrigerator, lights, router and TV together a few hundred watts. The Ultra X can run all of that simultaneously with headroom for start-up surges.
The practical effect is that your household does not change its behavior during an outage. That is the difference between a backup and a battery system.
EcoFlow's product page publishes runtime estimates based on typical appliance duty cycles. The table below summarizes them; runtimes assume the appliance is the only load and account for the fact that most appliances cycle rather than run continuously.

Central air conditioning cycles in practice, so real runtime is longer than the continuous figure. And any solar connected during the day extends every number in this table; with a 10kW array the system can often run the house and refill the batteries at the same time.
The Ultra X's charging speed is what separates it from installed home batteries, which typically refill from solar over a full day. Its solar input accepts up to 10kW, and at that rate EcoFlow lists a full recharge in about 1.2 hours. From the grid, it recharges in under 2 hours. It can also charge from a generator for indefinite runtime through a long outage. The weather-tracking feature watches forecasts and, in Storm Guard mode, tops the batteries to full ahead of predicted severe weather so you enter an outage with everything you have.
Start with what you want to keep running and for how long, not with the total size of your house.
If you have solar, size for one night plus a cloudy day, then let the array carry you. If you do not, size for the longest outage you realistically expect.

Because batteries stack without tools, the right approach for most homes is to start at two, live with the system through a season, and add modules if you find yourself wanting more. The Ultra X can be used standalone with plug-in loads the day it arrives, and the batteries connect with the included cables and no tools. To power your home's hard-wired circuits automatically, it connects through an EcoFlow smart home panel, which a licensed electrician installs between your utility meter and your main panel. That is what enables the sub-10ms switchover and lets the app decide which circuits get priority as the battery runs down. The original DELTA Pro Ultra remains on sale and remains a strong system: a 7,200W inverter, 6,144Wh batteries, up to 5.6kW of solar per inverter and expansion to 90kWh, at $2,799 for the inverter or $4,199 with one battery. The Ultra X raises output to 12kW, nearly doubles solar input to 10kW, doubles the maximum system to 184kWh and adds the weather-aware features. If you need to run central AC and a well pump together, or want the fastest possible solar recharge, choose the Ultra X. If your loads are more modest and budget matters, the original Ultra is still excellent.
